Piano teacher, South County Dublin
I offer one-to-one piano lessons to children, teens, adult beginners and returners, tailored to the needs of each student.
My studio, located in Glenageary and equipped with two pianos, offers a great environment for students to explore their creativity and have an enjoyable learning experience.
I believe that music lessons should focus not only on playing music – but on making music. We play pieces that students love, explore the world of classical improvisation and composition, and learn about music theory.
For returning students, I specialise in correcting and improving piano technique.
RIAM exam preparation also available.

Learning music
through creativity
I am a pianist and composer specialising in classical music, historical composition and improvisation. I teach piano in a holistic way, with an emphasis on creativity. In addition to helping students learn pieces they enjoy while developing a healthy technique, I introduce them to music theory from the beginning, so they can understand the music they play.
Improvisation and Composition
I also incorporate classical improvisation and composition activities. Depending on the student’s level and interests, these may include:
Improvising different patterns to well-known tunes.
Learning sequences (chord patterns) as building blocks for improvisation and composition.
Using a piece the student has learned as a “template” for improvisation or composition.
Improvising or composing a short waltz.
Introduction to partimento, the equivalent of classical music lead sheets.
I’m passionate that students should not only be able to play music, but also have the tools to fully understand what they play, and to make their own music if they wish.
For adult returners who wish to improve their piano technique, I specialise in helping them learn to play more comfortably and to develop evenness and speed. We will discuss and explore the mechanics of the entire arm, hand and fingers in piano playing.
